So You Want To Fill A Bar…

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Welcome… Glad to have you.  This thread is set up so that the average person can own a fully stocked bar on $30 a week.  Now I know what you’re saying ” But Mike! That’s a lot of money.”  No, stupid, it’s not.  You pr’olly spent that much to get into the last club you went to.

Every week I will add certain recipes containing the liquor you have in your stock.  Bear in mind that you will run out of items and replenishment is not part of this budget.  This can get expensive if you live next to a halfway house (not that I recommend giving drinks to people in halfway houses.)  This also doesn’t take into account massive parties, weddings, or just another Tuesday night in some cases.

Now that the disclaimer is out of the way… Lets get jamming.

The first thing every bar needs is Vodka.   Don’t be a tool and think you need Grey Goose; FRIS will suffice.  Hell, most people can’t even tell it apart. A magnum (1.75L) normally runs 20 bucks.  The next step is triple sec.  Pick up one on the cheap.  I normally use BOLS triplesec because it’s like 4 bucks.  You don’t need cointreau yet, it will come in time.  The final item on this weeks list is sweetened lime juice.  I have seen it as low as 2 dollars a fifth (750ml. or 75cl.,) it can also run upwards of 15 dollars (don’t buy that one.)  I have no brand preference to lime juice find the cheapest.

Hooray for you…you can now make drinks, albeit simple ones, but we have to start somewhere.

Kamikaze

1 - 3 oz vodka
1 oz triple sec
1 oz lime juice

Use between 1 and 3 ounces of vodka to your own taste. Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into an old-fashioned glass over ice cubes, and serve.

French Gimlet

Use the same ingredients as the Kamikaze but we stir instead of shaking…. Way to go, Frenchies…

F*cked by a Rockstar (Sorry about the asterisk but their might be kids reading…)
1 oz vodka
1/2 oz triple sec
1/2 oz Rockstar® energy drink
Pour all three ingredients into a 2-oz shot glass, and serve.

Another fun thing we can do is to infuse some of this new vodka you have.

We infuse using an old mason jar, your vodka, and any fruit you want.  I recommend using lemon first (your gonna need a citrus vodka anyway.)  Take 4 lemons, quarter them, and put them in the clean mason jar (use your dishwasher to steam clean it.) Fill with vodka (I know you just bought it) and put it on a shelf in your basement or garage.  Forget about the vodka now, it takes time to infuse.
